The Kingdom of Bahrain celebrated this week, through the Animal Health Agency at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Planning, the International Week for Awareness of Animal Antibiotic Resistance “World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week”.

Dr. Fajr Al-Salloum, the Kingdom’s delegate to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and head of the Regional Committee for the Middle East, explained what the organization, in cooperation with international organizations, FAO, and WHO is doing to raise awareness through the tripartite program for sustainable control, which includes monitoring the manufacture and production of drugs, methods of use, registration and determining their effectiveness. It also combats fraud and smuggling, especially of antibiotics and their derivatives

Dr. Yousef Ibrahim, Director of Animal Health, also noted the Bahraini administration’s full cooperation between various sectors in updating awareness programs for citizens and realizing the dangers of the wrong use of antibiotics, which results in weak resistance and immunity to diseases.

The Bahraini administration makes presentations on this subject throughout the international week.
